An Italian friend of ours once asked us, “What it is that Canadians customarily drink before they eat a meal?”

When we told him that it wasn’t customary to start off with an ‘aperitivo’ in Canada. With a confused look, he assumed we didn’t understand his question. After asking five more times… the shocking truth sunk in.

So, to observe an important ritual of the Italian experience, and to honour our friend, The Fax Ox brings you, ‘The Spritz’ – easily the most popular aperitivo in Italy. We’re pretty sure we had about 15 per day while in Venice! We also recommend two other classics — the Americano and the Bicicletta.

You can also enjoy several amari and a selection of vermouths available on rotation to help get the appetite going before your meal begins.

Don’t forget the digestivo!

While the aperitivo is highly recommended at the start, so is the digestivo at the end. All things in moderation (but sometimes more is better!)
